Another "lightening" session

Another "lightening" session I went to had another great title: "Technological options for student video presentation assignments in online classes." Since I've been teaching Online Presentations for a while now, I was looking for some fresh ideas. Again I was disappointed---it was just a recap on what's been used to try and teach public speaking online. I did come out of the session with an idea: using Skype for the students to do their speeches.

In defense of these "lightening" sessions, I think they were trying to cover too much in too short a time. This was the first time they had tried this at the conference, and it will be interesting to see if they have it again next year.

  1. I too enjoy the idea of Skype in the classroom. At this current moment the Beta version of Skype "group v-chat" is being tested. What I have noticed being used in many online classes are v-logs. Not only does this help students to understand the concept of "Web 2.0", it also helps bridge the gap between student/student and instructor/student interactions in the online realm.

I even did a v-log during my M.Ed program at the University at Buffalo.

Also I think is so awesome your blogging directly from you iPhone!!

  2. Thanks! I can't imagine how I lived without my iPhone before. Luckily I got a 3G one before the new ones came out.

I'll have to check into the v-logs. I've heard of the Group Skype coming out and I'm curious to see how that works.
